I found this article just as I was using my last dryer sheet. I don’t know about you but I spend way to much on dryer sheets. I also know they contain a lot of chemicals that are unhealthy. If you haven’t read the research, dryer sheets are harmful to your health because they deposit chemicals on your clothing that is absorbed into your skin that can cause damage to your overall health!
Still I use them because I like the softness and scents. I’ve used tennis balls but I found they were very hard and noisy so I gave up on that option. When reading this post however, I discovered that felted wool balls are not only soft but also anti-bacterial. When I discovered I can have the softness, scents, cut static, and save money and also help my health, all at the same time, instead of buying more dryer sheets, I bought a skein of wool yarn to make these felted wool dryer balls.
- One skein (120 yards) of 100% wool roving yarn (Available at Jo-Ann Fabrics, AC Moore, Michaels, Amazon or other yarn and craft stores)
- Crochet hook or yarn needle (any size, available at yarn and craft stores)
- One knee-high or pair of pantyhose (No need to buy new, use an old pair!)
