Caramelizing onions can be tricky. It’s necessary to stand over them, stir them, and watch them closely to be sure they caramelize but don’t burn. It’s a long, slow, labor intensive process. I love caramelized onions but I’m often not inclined to make them because of the work involved. However, once I discovered this technique for making slow cooker caramelized onions, I now have them in my fridge all the time!
Caramelized onions add a sweet and savory note to anything they top. Try them over grilled chicken, with burgers, beef dishes, omelets, potatoes, fish, etc, etc, etc.. The addition of caramelized onions adds a great flavor dimension to any dish.
